Arsenal
boss Unai Emery has praised the qualities of Dani Ceballos when asked about the
midfielder’s potential move to the Emirates this summer. The Spain
international is currently in the ranks of Real Madrid but he has been touted
to make the move to the north London giants on a temporary basis this summer.
Speaking in
a press conference, Emery was asked whether Ceballos could be making the switch
to the Gunners this summer and he replied with a neutral tone saying:“I don’t
want to speak about the names but Ceballos is a very good player.” Meanwhile,
when pressed further regarding the potential new arrivals, Emery suggested that
the club are looking to land at least three or four additions before the
transfer deadline next month.
He said: “Our
target is to achieve three, four players to really improve our team and squad
now. We are being very demanding and we are also first speaking about the
possibility to sign very big players, very expensive. The first player in our
list is the first target and after, if we cannot have that then [we try to
sign] the second, but thinking every time that they are going to improve our
team.”
Arsenal have remained relatively quiet during the course of the summer transfer window and they have landed just Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano. However, reports have indicated that the club are discussing moves for the likes of Kieran Tierney, Wilfried Zaha and William Saliba and a deal for the latter appears close to completion.
Still, the move may not necessarily benefit the club, considering Saint-Etienne are expected to retain the defender’s services on loan for the 2019/2020 season. Arsenal are currently preparing for their third pre-season friendly of the summer against Bayern Munich. Emery is expected to field most of the senior players against the German giants.
