Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has said that the arrival of new manager Carlo Ancelotti will be changing the style of play at the club. Real Madrid recently brought in the former Chelsea manager as the replacement for José Mourinho, who left the club after three years in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu. During this time, Mourinho embarked on a different style of football that has left some Real Madrid fans bewildered. Unlike in the past, Real Madrid played a counter-attacking style of football that depended greatly on the pace and skills of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ozil has revealed that Real Madrid will be playing different under Ancelotti, who is now going to place more emphasis on ball retention and speed of passing. Ancelotti is a well respected manager after he has won league titles in three different countries. He has also lifted the Champions league title as a player and as a manager. He is expected to use Ozil in the middle of the park rather than in the wings as José Mourinho. The German international has revealed that he is more comfortable than just behind the striker rather than on the wings.
Madrid have strengthened substantially over the summer in order to reclaim the league title that they lost to Barcelona last season.
“The right wing is not my favourite position, I prefer to play in the hole. However, my relationship with the coach is very good. We’re training well and are very happy. Ancelotti knows how he wants to play, and his ideas are clear. He also has the right players for this system. He wants to play differently to Mourinho and our game will be more about speed and keeping the ball,” said the 24-year-old midfielder. After the departure of Higuain, Ozil is expected to play a key role in the team.
