Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says that the Spanish club would not have signed Cristiano Ronaldo had it not been for him. It is widely believed that Calderon was the president who struck the £ 80 million deal to sign Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009.
However, he was ousted from the presidency just before the transfer was completed. Ronaldo has since become a major hit at Madrid and the price for signing the Portuguese star has gone to current president Florentino Perez. Calderon reckons that Perez did not fancy signing Ronaldo for this world record transfer fee.
Calderon has recalled the events that could have almost resulted in Ronaldo staying at Manchester United. The 29-year-old recently picked up the European Golden Shoe award, while he is the favorite to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award.
He has almost single- handedly helped the club win the Champions League – the 10th European title for Madrid. Calderon may not have much influence on Madrid these days, but he appears keen on returning back to the presidency. It would be difficult as Madrid have won the European trophy during Perez’ reign. It is likely to give a huge boost to Perez’ bid for the next term.
“When Florentino became president and came to the club, he wanted to break (negotiations). He thought it was very expensive. He knew he was a good player but thought he wasn’t worth that amount of money. That was a problem he had at the beginning with Cristiano, who knew that.
They said ‘we are not selling Cristiano, we don’t want him to go’ which is normal. But the player wanted to leave. We were negotiating for two years. Ferguson is obsessed with Real Madrid, he doesn’t like us very much,” said Calderon. Ronaldo is the top scorer in the Spanish league by some distance.

Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti has recently been taking chance to shut down some of the rumors that have been spreading around concerning the future of some of his players.
Iker Casillas has been enduring a very rocky road with Real Madrid in these past few seasons as he was a benchwarmer for the majority of the time when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club and reports started emerging that he was unhappy about the current situation with the possibility of him leaving the Santiago Bernabeu being a realistic one but it never happened as Iker Casillas remained being a player of Real Madrid.
The arrival of the new coach Carlo Ancelotti sparked life for Iker Casillas as he is the undisputed goal-keeper for Real Madrid. There have been rumors however of the Spanish club being interested in signing Manchester United’s David de Gea as he can replace the aging Casillas but according to Ancelotti that’s false.
Carlo Ancelotti said: “The discussion is closed. His future is here. He is part of the history of the club and in several years when he quits playing he will attend this forum along with other great ex-Real players to talk about all the European Cups he has won wearing this shirt.”
Another player that has been linked with Real Madrid is Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling as the 19 year old forward is luring the attention of top European clubs and one of those clubs was rumored to be Real Madrid but Ancelotti denied that Real Madrid has Sterling in their plans as the Italian manager is well-aware of the vast amount of talented played that he has at his disposal in Real Madrid and signing Raheem Sterling would be just too much.
“Sterling is a player of great quality, certainly one of the best in Europe. But we already have extraordinary talent here. To think of another striker for the Real Madrid attack is really extremely difficult. It’s clear that Sterling is not in our plans.” Ancelotti added on.
Ancelotti confessed and said that he is a fan of Sterling but the club is simply not interested in signing him anytime soon as they already have a lot of talented attacking players in the team.

Radamel Falcao completed a stunning loan move to Manchester United on transfer deadline day, but the striker’s father has revealed that the player could have easily joined Real Madrid. It is understood that the Spanish champions were leading the race to sign the 28-year-old from Monaco. However, the presence of Karim Benzema at Madrid made it difficult for the Spanish club to guarantee a first-team spot for the Colombian international. A marquee signing of club president Florentino Perez, Benzema is one important players at the club.
Falcao was recently given the number nine shirt at United. In his first press conference, he stated that the Premier League outfit were his first choice destination, but the striker hinted at in joining Madrid just a few hours before the United move came close. Falcao’s father has revealed in an interview to a radio station that the Spanish club wanted to sign the 28-year-old, but they were keen on imposing a lot of sanctions that made it almost impossible for Falcao to earn the same amount of money as he is doing in Monaco. The forward is currently on a contract worth £ 200,000 per week tax-free income.
It is believed that in order to offset the taxes, United will be paying the striker an astonishing £ 18 million per season or £ 350,000 a week.
“The deal with Real Madrid did not happen because if you have money and you go to the market to buy a shirt or a pair of trousers, you have to decide whether to buy it or not. Real Madrid chose not to. I don’t know, I have the feeling they wanted the player for free with a number of conditions. In any case, they bought the trousers and shirt they wanted and they considered that to be better. We have to accept it,” said Falcao’s father.
